"Can corpses be transported?" A lawmaker questioned the minister about the safety of freight transportation on platforms.

Majilis deputy Pavel Kazantsev posed a question to Transport Minister Marat Karabaev regarding the safety measures for platform freight transportation. This was reported by Bizmedia.kz.
«Могут ли перевозить тела?» – депутат спросил министра о безопасности грузоперевозок на платформах.

“My question is directed to the speaker and pertains to the safety of cargo transportation via platforms. Not just safety, but national security. Currently, platform-based cargo and baggage transportation is virtually unregulated and uncontrolled.

With just one call through the platform, we can send a wide variety of goods: documents, flower bouquets, batches of products, gifts, and so on, using any suitable ride-share.

This is very convenient, and everyone knows it. People say: ‘Thank you, government.’ However, it is also widely recognized that the same call and the same ride-share can be used to transport weapons, drugs, and potent toxic substances. Colleagues, I can state authoritatively: this method can also be used to transport corpses.

And the criminals here are also saying: ‘Thank you, government.’ Everyone is aware of this. Therefore, my question is: how do you plan to regulate this extremely serious issue? I ask that you consider this very specifically and provide recommendations,” said the member of the Mazhilis.

Minister Karabaev responded that a draft law on “Postal Services” is currently under consideration in the Mazhilis. Within this framework, a provision regarding so-called unaccompanied cargo is being promoted.

“One of the key requirements for such cargo, to put it simply, is that the individual or company accepting the unaccompanied cargo must have the appropriate technical equipment to determine its contents without opening it.

This implies the use of special scanners, such as Rapiscan.

I believe that the implementation of this provision will help, one way or another, to regulate the transportation of unaccompanied cargo,” emphasized the head of the department.

He also added that he will take this issue into account in the draft law.
