The Italian ambassador to Kazakhstan has stepped down from his position.

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Roman Vasilenko, held a meeting with Marco Alberti, the Ambassador of the Italian Republic to Kazakhstan, to discuss the conclusion of his diplomatic mission, as reported by Bizmedia.kz citing the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Roman Vasilenko expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the ambassador for his contribution to strengthening the Kazakh-Italian strategic partnership. Special recognition was given to Marco Alberti's efforts in organizing the official visit of the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, to Italy in January of this year, as well as in enhancing trade and economic ties, which resulted in an increase in trade turnover between the two countries from $10 billion to $17 billion since 2021.

Moreover, the role of the Italian diplomat in organizing visits of Italian government officials to Kazakhstan, the opening of the Italian Cultural Center in Almaty, the development of cooperation in higher education, the launch of direct flights between Italy and Kazakhstan, and the implementation of other significant initiatives was emphasized.

For his contributions to the development of bilateral relations, Marco Alberti was awarded a Letter of Gratitude from the President of Kazakhstan and honored with the "Barys" badge.

In response, the ambassador expressed appreciation to the Kazakh side for their support, warm reception, and efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation, as well as conveyed hope for the further development of Kazakh-Italian strategic ties.

At the end of the meeting, Roman Vasilenko wished Marco Alberti success and new achievements in his professional life.

For the year 2023, Italy will remain one of Kazakhstan's largest trading partners, accounting for 14.4% of its external trade turnover. The bilateral trade turnover from January to October 2024 reached $17.4 billion (exports — $16.4 billion, imports — $1 billion). Italian direct foreign investments in Kazakhstan have exceeded $7.6 billion since 2005.
