The political scientist also mentions that over the past 30 years, Kazakhstan has experienced tragedies similar to the one that occurred in Talgar.
“The majority of them simply did not become public knowledge; in some cases, there was pressure on the crime victims, and in others, officials concealed everything to avoid tarnishing their statistics,” he added.
According to the political scientist, the publicity surrounding the events in Talgar has become an irritant for officials.
“By the way, the harsh behavior of the authorities towards the victims (with no compassion for the people's grief), towards the father of the murdered boy and other relatives indicates that officials are annoyed by the very fact of the publicity of this case, that the entire country is watching it, and that many things are difficult to hide, while their ineffective work is visible to all of Kazakhstan. It should not be forgotten that those investigating this crime are also under pressure from above. But the pressure is not aimed at achieving justice. Rather, it is to wrap things up quickly and have them forgotten, as the Talgar tragedy negatively impacts the image of the entire government,” expressed Dosym Satpaev.
Talgar came into the spotlight due to criminal events in October 2024, following the murder of 16-year-old Sherzat Polat. A few days later, his family’s house burned down. This week, news emerged about the death of the teenager's uncle, Nurganat Gaiypbaev. According to the official version, he committed suicide. After Gaiypbaev's funeral, Sherzat Polat's father, Karzhaubay Nurymov, created a scandal in the village of Azat, where the family lives, resulting in his arrest by the police. Today, it was revealed that a criminal case has been initiated against the man.
