14-year-old Aurelia tragically passed away in September. Her body was discovered in the Baykonyr district of the capital, in an abandoned building. The police initially suggested that it might have been an accident. However, the girl's relatives have consistently maintained that it was a deliberate murder. According to them, there were no odd behaviors noted on the day she went missing. Aurelia came home from school and asked to go out after classes, but she stayed out longer than usual, which was uncharacteristic for her. Late that evening, police found her body in the ruins of an abandoned kindergarten, close to her home.
Three months later, the official cause of Aurelia's death was identified as poisoning from a gas mixture, which reportedly led to cardiac arrest. Overall, police suggested that it resembled a suicide, leading to the initiation of a criminal case under the charge of "Driving to Suicide."
"During the investigation of the criminal case, all necessary actions were taken. No signs of violent death were found. [The case] was closed due to lack of evidence of a crime," stated Sanjar Adilov, the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan.
Relatives of the girl vehemently disagree with this conclusion. For several months, they have been seeking the truth and naming specific individuals they believe may be involved. Aurelia's family claims that bruises and hematomas were found on her body, and the knuckles on her hands were bloodied. They speculate that she may have tried to resist before her death.
The deceased girl's sister, Karina Aleksandryuk, shared photos of the injuries on her social media page. She stated that all of Aurelia's clothing was covered in dust and dirt. Therefore, she believes that the girl's body was moved to the abandoned kindergarten after her death, where it was later found. Karina insists that the criminal case cannot be closed, as the family has yet to receive clear explanations from the police.
"As a victim, I was not informed that my deceased sister's case was closed, nor was I provided with any documents. Numerous investigative actions have still not been conducted due to the fact that the repeated examination is not ready, hence the case is still under investigation. There are no grounds to conclude the investigative actions and close the case, as the necessary legal procedures for the investigation have not been fully completed," Karina Aleksandryuk states.
According to Karina, the initial conclusion from the forensic expert cited an unspecified illness as the cause of death, despite the fact that 14-year-old Aurelia had no health issues. The family was not informed about the protocol for the forensic examination from the very beginning, which compelled them to conduct an additional investigation. The results of this inquiry may shed light on what happened. Therefore, the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs had no right to publicly announce the cessation of the investigation, according to the relatives of the deceased schoolgirl. They are determined to continue fighting, as they believe Aurelia's death was not an accident.
