14-year-old Aurelia died in September. Her body was discovered in the Baikonyr district of the capital in an abandoned building. The police quickly proposed that it was an accident. However, the girl's relatives have insisted from the very beginning that it was a deliberate murder. According to them, there were no unusual behaviors on her part on the day she went missing. She returned home from school and asked to go out after classes, but she stayed out much longer than usual. Late in the evening, police found her body in the building of an abandoned kindergarten, not far from the home where the student lived.
Three months later, the official cause of Aurelia's death was stated by the investigation to be poisoning from a gas mixture, which allegedly caused her heart to stop. Overall, according to the police, this resembles a suicide, which is why a criminal case was opened under the article "Driving to Suicide."
"During the investigation of the criminal case, all investigative actions were carried out. No signs of violent death were found. [The case] was closed due to lack of evidence of an offense," noted Kazakhstan's Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Sanjar Adilov.
The girl's relatives categorically disagree with this. For several months, they have been seeking the truth and naming specific individuals who may be involved. Aurelia's relatives recount that bruises and hematomas were found on the girl's body, and the knuckles on her hands were bloodied. The family believes that she attempted to resist before her death.
The sister of the deceased, Karina Aleksandryuk, posted pictures of the injuries on her personal social media page. According to her, all of Aurelia's clothing was covered in dust and dirt. Therefore, she believes that the girl's body was moved to the abandoned kindergarten building after her death, where it was later found. Karina insists that the criminal case cannot be closed because the relatives have yet to receive clear explanations from the police.
"As a victim, I was not notified that the case of my deceased sister was closed, and I was not provided with any documents. Many investigative actions have still not been conducted due to the fact that the repeated examination is not ready, so the case is still being investigated. There are no grounds for ending the investigative actions and closing the case, as the full legal measures for the investigation have not been fulfilled," says Karina Aleksandryuk.
According to Karina, the initial conclusion from the forensic expert cited some illness as the cause of death, although 14-year-old Aurelia had no health problems. The fact that the family was not informed from the outset about the protocol for the forensic examination forced them to conduct an additional investigation. Its results may shed light on what happened. Therefore, the deputy minister of internal affairs had no right to publicly announce the termination of the investigation, believe the relatives of the deceased schoolgirl. They are determined to continue fighting, as they are convinced that Aurelia's death was not an accident.
