14-year-old Aurelia passed away in September. Her body was discovered in the Baikonyr district of the capital in an abandoned building. The police initially suggested that it was an accident. However, the girl's relatives have consistently maintained that it was a deliberate murder. According to them, there were no unusual behaviors exhibited by her on the day she went missing. She came home from school and asked to go out after classes, but she was significantly delayed, which was not typical for her. Late in the evening, the police found her body in an abandoned kindergarten building, not far from her home.
Three months later, the official cause of Aurelia's death was determined by the investigation to be poisoning from a gas mixture, which allegedly caused her heart to stop. Overall, according to the police, this resembles suicide, hence the criminal case was initiated under the article "Driving to Suicide."
"During the investigation of the criminal case, all necessary investigative actions were taken. No signs of violent death were found. [The case] was closed due to lack of evidence of a crime," noted Kazakhstan's Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Sanjar Adilov.
Her relatives strongly disagree with this conclusion. For several months, they have been seeking the truth and naming specific individuals who they believe may be involved. Aurelia's family reports that bruises and hematomas were found on the girl's body, and the knuckles on her hands were bloodied. They suspect that she may have tried to resist before her death.
The deceased girl's sister, Karina Aleksandryuk, posted photos of the injuries on her personal social media page. She stated that all of Aurelia's clothing was covered in dust and dirt. Therefore, she believes that the girl's body was moved to the abandoned kindergarten building after her death, where it was later found. Karina insists that the criminal case cannot be closed because the family has not received clear explanations from the police.
"As a victim, I was not informed that my deceased sister's case was closed, nor was I provided with any documents. A multitude of actions have still not been conducted in this case due to the fact that the re-examination is not ready, so the investigation is ongoing. There are no grounds to conclude the investigative actions and close the case, as many investigative measures have not been fully carried out," says Karina Aleksandryuk.
According to Karina, the initial conclusion from the forensic expert cited an unspecified illness as the cause of death, despite the fact that 14-year-old Aurelia had no health issues. The family's lack of access to the protocol for the forensic examination from the beginning forced them to conduct an additional investigation. The results could shed light on what happened. Therefore, the deputy minister of internal affairs had no right to publicly announce the termination of the investigation, according to the relatives of the deceased schoolgirl. They are determined to continue fighting, as they believe that Aurelia’s death was not an accident.
